The demand for quality self- replacing Perendale genetics was at the fore during last week’s SheepVention – an annual highlight of the farming calendar in Victoria. The 2015 SheepVention was yet another example of the exciting and innovative developments in Australia’s agricultural industry.
“Our interaction with leading farmers over the past few months has indicated that the Mount Monmot genetics team are certainly leading the charge on making well-rounded quality genetics available right here in Victoria. The hard work that is being carried out both here at Mount Monmot and back at our New Zealand stud partner, Newhaven Perendales is coming to fruition when you view the robust, high performing sheep that we are producing” says Trudy Boyer of Mount Monmot Perendales.
David and Robyn Ruddenklau, directors of Newhaven Perendales in New Zealand’s South Island traveled to SheepVention and were impressed with the direction that Australian sheep farmers are heading towards. “With heightened demand for sheep that perform in even the most challenging climatic conditions and that are efficient in regards to the ewe body size: lambs produced ratio, we are delighted that through the capable team at Mount Monmot, we are able to provide Perendale genetics that are suited to Australian conditions and backed by 43 years of leading edge genetic gains” says David.
Studmaster Malcolm Fletcher along with Mount Monmot’s Boyer family and the Ruddenklaus can be seen featured in the photographs taken at SheepVention. With the Mount Monmot ewe flock currently lambing and another buoyant year of ram sales looming in late Spring – 2015 promises to be another very exciting year at Mount Monmot – for both the stud team and clients throughout Australia.
